Boudoir is the French word for ‘private room’ and it is used to define a style of photography (Boudoir Photography) which captures an individual seductive beauty.I teamed up with Sandra Cristina from Predestined in Love to create a series of images to give you some inspiration to commemorate Valentine’s Day.
The most important thing when doing a boudoir session is to enjoy it and have fun, furthermore when choosing a photographer you have to connect with him/her, you have to trust her/him so the magic can happen. This is the time to discuss your likes and dislikes. Having a quick meeting days before the shoot will help to create that bond.
Once you have a photographer and a date set up, it is time to decide what to wear. Again, you have to feel comfortable with yourself. I would recommend wearing anything that makes you feel sexy and beautiful; lace, pearls, red heels, transparency, silk… I am wearing a lace bodysuit by Bethenny Frankel (similar). Makeup is always fun to play with, start with a more natural look and switch to sexy red lips or smokey eyes. Once you are all set, let the shoot begin!
Make sure you have music on set to create the vibe; Beyonce, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Madonna… We need that inspiration, The Pussycat Dolls does it for me all the time. When props are available, use them! a chair, curtains, pillows, a mirror… it will make the shoot more interesting and it will help you with the poses too.
Also, try to be well hydrated so your skin doesn’t look dry, lotion or body oil will boost it. Have clean hair and a nice manicure/pedicure so you can show and play with your hair, hands, and feet proudly. Be sassy, flirt with the camera, have a laugh, look away… This is your moment, be confident and enjoy it because you are beautiful, it will show in the final product.
The reason why you are having a boudoir photo shoot is also important. It is the emotional factor that will make the session memorable. Either to celebrate your weight loss, for your wedding anniversary, because you turn 30 or 50, for Valentine’s day or just for the heck of it. It is the perfect gift for yourself and your loved ones.
